"ELATE presents Lettice and Lovage, the story of a later in life friendship between the most unlikely humans. Lettice, an eccentric child of the theatre, and Lotte, the empitomous career women find common ground in Peter Shaffer's wonderful tale of worlds colliding. It's a joyous, laugh a minute way to remind ourselves that differences can be overcome, and anyone can become friends. Even if an axe happens to be involved. Lettice and Lovage runs April 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 and May 1, 2, 3, Friday and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm in the Lincoln Stegman Theatre.

Dear ELC Congregational Members,

We are trying something different this year when it comes to the Annual Congregational Meeting. We are splitting it into two separate meetings. The majority of the agenda will still be held during the Constitutionally assigned date in June; however, the Finance portion will be addressed in a Congregational Meeting on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 11:15 AM. While more details on the reason why we are doing this will be provided at the meeting, having the finance portion addressed earlier allows for better planning for our teachers and staff, as well as our Laurel Hall and Laurel Hal Preschool Administrators, and ELC. As we have done in the past, there will be a Budget Forum Meeting on the Saturday before, March 21, 2026, gathering around 10:00 AM in the Admin Building.

Please mark your calendars for this Emmanuel Lutheran Church Congregational Meeting on March 22, 2026 at 11:15 AM. I hope to see you there as we address this important piece of business.

At long last we have a full time pastor, for both Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Laurel Hall School and Laurel Hall Preschool. Please come celebrate with us! Bishop Brenda Bos will be there to make it official. Directly following, enjoy a light lunch - with cake. An exciting time for our whole community. Confirmation Classes

Starting in October

This year we will be partnering with other churches in the Twin Valley Conference to teach Confirmation classes. Classes will be held on Sunday afternoons from 1:30-3:30pm at differing locations and churches throughout the Conference. Classes will only be once a month and will run until May. If you are in the 6-8th grade and want to attend or if you are the parent of a middle schooler who wants their kiddo to attend, please contact Pastor Rick at rhall@elcnoho.org or call the church 818-761-6124 or catch him on Sunday. It should be an exciting year of learning as we will focus on: What does it mean to be Lutheran?

Quilt Sunday

October 12th & 19th

Quilt Sundays will take place October 12 & 19. The Quilters of Emmanuel meet each Tuesday, 9-11:30 a.m. ten months of the year to make quilts for Lutheran world Relief. The quilts are then packed up and shipped all over the world to people in need.

Personal Care Kits and Baby Care Kits assembled by the Quilters are also sent to LWR along with the quilts. The quilts will be on display in the Sanctuary October 12 and19 and will be available for a donation of $50.00. These donations help purchase supplies for the coming year to make more quilts and kits.

The Quilters thank the Emmanuel community and friends for their support in this outreach project.

New Member Classes

Are you interested in becoming a member at Emmanuel Lutheran Church? Ever wondered how you can get connected? You are not the only one. We are a species that needs to be connected to something. We were built to live in community together. Emmanuel Lutheran Church (ELC) is a place to find that community. One possibility is to join our community through membership and participation in the church. That is why I am letting people know that we will be holding new member classes on Nov. 2nd and 16th. This is a time to introduce you to Emmanuel and have an open conversation about how we can serve you, you us, and we together can worship and serve God.

It is strongly recommended that you plan to attend both of the classes that will run from 11:20 am to 12:30 pm as this is a 2-part class. After the classes are completed, we will have a new member Sunday, November 23rd during worship. This will be when we welcome you and your family as new members of ELC.

If you are transferring in, you should plan to attend the classes as well. We will need some information about the church you are transferring from so we can reach out to them and get everything in order.

A Celebration of Life for Andrew Piecka

We are incredibly sad to report the passing of Andrew Piecka.

Andrew and his wife Barbara were vital members of Emmanuel where they served on various church committees and regularly as ushers.

He was a devoted husband to Barbara and father to son Tad and daughter-in-law Meghan.

A Celebration of Life will take place here at Emmanuel on November 1, 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception.

A graduate of MIT, he designed and implemented computer programs for major companies. While at MIT he also displayed his talents on the stage, He recently shared this photo of himself in a classic Moliere farce. ELATE members were blessed to have benefited from both talents.

One of Andrew’s favorite endeavors was putting up the one-man show Give ‘em Hell Harry. It received rave reviews and remains a fan favorite.

Andrew directed several staged readings, acted on the ELATE stage as well as movies and TV. He contributed on set workdays and was an active ELATE board member. Check out the ELATE Facebook page to see more photos of his work through the years. He was loved and admired and will be greatly missed.

Elate's Next Show!

Opening day Oct. 10tth

ELATE's next show is a stage adaptation of Dashiell Hammett's original 1929 serial version of The Maltese Falcon as printed in Black Mask magazine.

This was turned into a popular novel in 1931, then made into 3 movies--1931, 1936 and 1941, the latter being the most famous. Every version is different in slightly (and sometimes more than slightly!) different ways. Our adaptation opens October 10 , and runs three weekends.

Auditions . . .

Auditions for The Bethlehem Project (written and directed by Jeff Zimmer with music by Mike Renneker) will be held Tuesday, October 14, 7:30-9pm and Saturday, October 18, 10 a.m.- noon at the Lincoln Stegman Theatre!

The show is a series of brief comedy sketches and songs. That's right, it's a MUSICAL! ELATE's first musical in 7 years!!! There will be a special preview show on November 30, and then the show runs December 5-7.

Don't let the "musical" part scare you away! There are plenty of parts for people who can't sing as well! But we could use someone who can do a Stan Laurel impression, and we need a teen girl to sing a featured song as Mary.
